Brittany (she/they) is a Canadian who makes graphic designs by daylight and writes stories by moonlight. Growing up her parents always said she had a "wild imagination" where she could be given a stick and create an entire story with it. Now as an adult they find themselves lost in the worlds they create often inspired by nature and anime. When she isn't writing she can be found hiking or drinking too much Starbucks.

I've loved reading and writing since I was a child. At age nine I wrote a short story collection titled, "My Book of Gory Deaths" by "the 2nd Agatha Christie." Such a humble kid. As an adult, the stories I write include siblings and found-family, with themes of self-acceptance, forgiveness, and bravery in the face of terrible odds. The hard things. When I'm not writing or working, I spend time with my partner and two small kids, read endless books, play old-time banjo, bake bread, and get punched in the head (box).

It was in 2021—after a childhood filled with reading and yearning to create her own stories—that Kayla decided to act on the manuscript idea that had refused to leave her mind. With her playlist at the ready and Melbourne's cutest cafes on her doorstep, Kayla spent her holidays writing. For a few weeks, it was all she did. Along the way, she joined #writertwt, polished her manuscript, commissioned character art and set off for the querying trenches, eager to make her stories heard. When she's not creating Pinterest moodboards and angsty Spotify playlists, Kayla can be found obsessing over her puppy Jiji and drinking one-too-many iced mochas.
